Sara DeVito
I am so excited to be back at Sauganash School for my fourth year teaching our diverse learners. My educational background consists a bachelors degree from DePaul University and a masters degree in Special Education from Northeastern University. This year, I will be teaching students in Kindergarten through Second Grade. Working closely with the General Education Teachers, we will be working on academic and social emotional learning. I am a mom of two wonderful children and a life long White Sox fan. Please feel free to contact me with any concerns at [email protected].

Sauganash has become my second home and I couldn't be happier. This will be my 7th year teaching! I worked at Edison Park School before coming to Sauganash which proved to be a dream come true. Before teaching I received my degree in special education from Western Illinois University (Go Leathernecks!). I have since received a masters in "digital teaching and technology" and am in the process of finishing my masters internship in "educational leadership" through Concordia University. This year I will be serving as the inclusion teacher and co-teaching with the rest of our great staff. About me: I am getting married in October and could not be more happy about it. I grew up in Mount Prospect with my two younger brothers (Marty & Jimmy) and younger sister (Kathleen). Like Mrs. Devito I am a White Sox fan along with the rest of the Chicago teams! Please feel free to contact me with any concerns at [email protected].

Sauganash has been my "home" away from home for 16 years. Prior to that, I taught at a catholic school for 13 years. Wow! I have been teaching for 29 years! That explains why I have taught every grade level from Pre-K up to 8th grade. My true passion is special education and I absolutely love working with the students in my classroom. This year I am teaching 5th and 6th grade instructional students again. The 5th and 6th grade team are an amazing group of people who I am excited to work with again this year. Unlike my other team members, I am the only CUBS fan which makes me stand out from the rest. I'll let you decide who has the winning team! Go CUBS!

Education has been my professional passion for the past 24 years. As a veteran CPS teacher, my experience began as an Elementary School Librarian in the Bridgeport neighborhood where I have strong family ties and fond memories...GO SOX! The decision to move farther and farther north over the years drove my decision to begin searching for a new teaching position to call home. As the planets and stars aligned, I was blessed to land a job here at Sauganash Elementary School as a teacher of students with diverse learning needs. My love of Sauganash School's administration, fellow colleagues, and the amazing community, encouraged our family to relocate to the Sauganash neighborhood which we are so proud to call home.
Currently, I am the Sauganash delegate for the Chicago Teachers Union and a newly elected LSC member.
My educational experience includes:
Bachelor of Arts, Elementary Education, K-9, University of Illinois at Chicago, IL
Master of Science, Special Education, Birth-21, University of Illinois at Chicago, IL
Master of Science, Instructional Technology, Northern Illinois University, IL
Type 75 Administrative Certificate, National Louis University, IL
Graduate Work, Library and Media Specialist, Dominican University, IL
ESL Endorsement (to be completed 11/2016), Dominican University, IL
As a parent, teacher, friend, and community member, I look forward to continually expanding my Sauganash family. I believe very strongly in the old adage, "It takes a village to raise a child" - so please never hesitate to contact me at [email protected] with questions, concerns, or just to say hello!

I am also so very proud to be a member of our outstanding diverse learner team here at Sauganash School. I am a lifelong Chicagoan, and am lucky to live in this beautiful Sauganash neighborhood with my husband, five kids and dog (Ozzie-go Sox!)This will be my eighth year at Sauganash School, and throughout these years I have taught kindergarten through eighth grade diverse learners. Previous teaching experiences include teaching second and third grade general education students at Harper School in Wilmette. I received my undergraduate dual certificate in general education and special education at National College of Education and my masters in Curriculum and Instruction at National Louis University. In addition to teaching, I have also coached volleyball for over 25 years, including the varsity volleyball coach at Regina Dominican High School. I am proud to also coach the girls volleyball team here at Sauganash School in addition to the Girls on the Run team. I am looking forward to another amazing year here at Sauganash School. Go Chiefs!
